- Their mother died in a car crash when they were twelve years old.

Education:

- Nathan and Matthew landed sports scholarships to go to Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. They pursued professional soccer careers in the United States and for nine months in Florence, Italy.

• He is the older twins. His identical twin Nathan Leone is the vocalist in Madina Lake.
• He has a tattoo of a frog showing the middle finger on his left bum cheek.

Musical Career:

• After pursuing professional soccer careers both in the United States and Italy, Matthew and Nathan decided to get involved in music. Matthew attended Columbia College in Chicago where he studied Music Management. Matthew picked up the bass for the first time at the age of 21. Seeking professional instruction, he was turned down by his first teacher, who said that his hands were too small to ever play the bass. He never went to another teacher, instead he taught himself.

• The brothers then decided to get involved in music. They had formed their first band, The Blank Theory, in 1998. In the early days of The Blank Theory, they also formed an independent label called 4 Alarm Records which also included The Frogs, The Pinehurst Kids, and Monkey Paw.

• Nathan and Matthew appeared on a special edition of Twin Fear Factor, which they won. The winnings from Fear Factor went to the recording process of Madina Lake's first self-produced EP called The Disappearance of Adalia that came out in early 2006. Later that year, they were signed to Roadrunner Records and created their first full length album entitled From Them, Through Us, To You, which was released in March 2007.
